They often have lots of explosions and gunplay, and the best ones take some care to honestly represent military life, imposing a moral cost for decisions or making you feel the loss of comrades in fighting. Recognizing that millennials coming into the military since 2000 grew up playing video games, the Army’s Science and Tech community created this first attempt at leveraging video games for training purposes. There were two versions of “Full Spectrum Warrior,” the one released to the public, and the one used as a training tool.

The Military Gaming League has worked with the Army on its esports effort and helped sponsor a qualifier in a Street Fighter V video game championship, which was hosted by the Army Installation Management Command at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., earlier this year.
