What is the lowest temperature cucumber plants can tolerate?

Is 39 degrees too hot for cucumbers to germinate?
- Soil temp for germination is as, or more important than air temp for a seed. Most seem to require “at least” a 55F to 60F soil temp, or preferably warmer, just to germinate. A temperature of 39 F will not kill your cucumber plants but if you have seeds planted and the soil temperature is in that range, they may not germinate.
Do cucumber seeds grow in cold weather?
- Cucumber plants are a warm weather crop, and they are very sensitive to cold. Without protection, a frost will kill them. Cucumber seeds will not germinate in soil colder than 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15.6 degrees Celsius). Just to be safe, you should start cucumber seeds indoors to keep them warm enough for germination.
Will 39 F kill cucumber plants?
- A temperature of 39 F will not kill your cucumber plants but if you have seeds planted and the soil temperature is in that range, they may not germinate. Cucumbers are a warm weather vegetable and they will not grow well if subjected to those kind of overnight temperatures.
